DAY 22 — LOVE BEGINS WITH GOD
Scripture: 1 John 4:9–10
“This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him.”
In 1966, a fire broke out in a crowded hospital in Chicago. A nurse named Margaret Shea noticed smoke filling a children’s ward on the fourth floor. Without waiting for instructions, she began carrying children — some connected to medical equipment — down the stairwell, one by one.
By the time firefighters arrived, she had rescued every child in the ward. When reporters asked why she risked her life so willingly, she replied simply, “Because they were mine to love in that moment.”
Reflection:
Love does not begin with what we do for God — it begins with what God has already done for us. Advent reminds us that love took on flesh and came near.
Where have you seen God’s love made visible in your life?
Prayer:
God of love, thank You for coming near.
Teach me to live from the love You have already given. Amen.
