Advent Prep - Week One - Day Four – Walking in Light

Day Four – Walking in Light
New Testament: Romans 13:12–13
Old Testament: Isaiah 2:5

Advent light doesn’t erase night — it teaches us how to walk until dawn.

Historical Context
Isaiah 2 envisions reversal: war transformed into peace, nations streaming upward to learn God’s ways. We've all heard the swords into plowshares - this is literally the vision!

For Judah on the brink of Assyrian invasion, this looked impossible. But Isaiah’s prophecy taught them to see beyond threats toward transformation.

When Paul quotes the imagery — “Put on the armor of light” — he invites believers to wear that prophecy as identity. Early Christians gathered at dawn for baptism, symbolically stepping from darkness into a new day’s vocation.

Modern Context
Light in Scripture means more than optimism; it’s integrity — life exposed to truth.

To “put on light” is to let faith define both ethics and energy: choosing honesty when deceit profits, purity when temptation calls, generosity when fear of scarcity whispers.

Such small disciplines brighten neighborhoods more than any sermon. (Oops - did I say that?   lol).

Meanwhile, darkness disguises itself as busyness.  (Ok - reality check - who is very busy right now!  Fess up!!!  Comment on it!). Busy forJesus, or for the world?

We stay in motion, but far from meaning.

This is what I love about Advent!  It's invitation is slower: notice, repent, realign.

Light requires leisure of soul.  (This is you're reread and two times for today)!

Because - Walking in light means practicing the clarity we pray for. (Ok, maybe that sentence too - I'm on a roll tonight)

Reflection
  • What shadow in attitude or habit dulls your witness?
  • What single change could help your daily life reflect God’s light?

Prayer
God of Morning,
wrap me in Your brightness.
Expose false motives gently but completely.
Let my choices shine where words are weak.
Amen.
I am wishing all of you the best ever time of THANKSGIVING!
And you all know who to thank first!

The true light demands an intentional slower pace. So much life changinging truth to absorb. We rob ourselves doing otherwise. Thanks for shedding light on the Light of the world. Happy Thanksgiving!
