Day Three - The Queen of Sheba’s Search for Wisdom
New TEstament Scripture: Luke 11:31
"The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with the people of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom; and now something greater than Solomon is here."
Ok – so where did this nugget come from? You have to love this week’s scripture!
Isn’t this what we called a spoiled cat– Queen Sheba? I call mine PITA!
Historical Context:
Jesus draws a contrast between the Queen of Sheba and the crowd before Him. The Queen traveled a great distance to seek Solomon’s wisdom, recognizing it as a gift from God.
Yet the crowd standing in the presence of Jesus, the very embodiment of God’s wisdom, refused to listen.
So, who was she? She went to honor the most intelligent man in the world – King Solomon!
The Queen of Sheba’s journey is recorded in 1 Kings 10:1–10. She traveled over 1,400 miles from Yemen to Jerusalem—a months-long journey filled with risk and expense.
Why? Because she recognized that Solomon’s wisdom was divinely inspired.
Her response was remarkable: she brought extravagant gifts, praised God, and acknowledged His hand in Solomon’s reign.
Jesus uses her story to expose the crowd’s spiritual blindness.
They were in the presence of someone “greater than Solomon”—the very wisdom of God—and yet they rejected Him.
Think about it -
Are we like the Queen of Sheba, willing to go to great lengths to seek God’s wisdom?
(C’mon – all of you paid more than you should have to see some singer sing on a stage!!!)
… Or are we like the crowd, standing in the presence of Truth but refusing to listen? True wisdom begins with humility and a hunger for God’s Word.
In closing quickly tonight I have to wonder – what do we have to pay to get front row seats at the God concert this week? Hmm, perhaps old knees on a hard floor?
Prayer: - This is a tight one!
Lord, You are the source of all wisdom.
Help me to hunger for Your truth and to seek You with all my heart.
Amen.
