Because He Lives - Pastor David - May 18 2025

Jesus calls us to become like children to enter the kingdom of God. But what does that mean? It’s not about immaturity or naivety but about embracing a posture of humility, trust, wonder, and dependence.

Children trust instinctively, approach life with openness, and rely on others without shame. They receive gifts freely, marvel at the world, and live without the weight of pride or control. For adults, however, the call to be like a child is difficult because it requires unlearning what the world has taught us about self-sufficiency and strength. Trusting God means letting go of control, and that can feel risky. Living with wonder requires setting aside cynicism, and being open to grace requires humility—acknowledging that we cannot earn or achieve everything on our own.

Jesus’ words challenge our pride and remind us that the kingdom of God is not earned through effort or status but received as a gift. To be like a child is to live with trust in God’s love, to marvel at His goodness, and to rest in His care. In this childlike posture, we find freedom, joy, and the life God desires for us. This is the heart of Jesus’ saying in Luke 9:48:

Then he said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.’
