DAY 2 — LIGHT FINDS US
Scripture: Isaiah 2:5
“O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!”
In 2010, the San José mine in Chile collapsed, trapping 33 miners nearly half a mile underground. For 17 days, no one knew whether they were alive.
On the surface, rescuers drilled hole after hole, finding only rock and debris. Below, the miners rationed food to tiny spoonfuls and comforted one another with prayer.
Then one morning, the drill broke through into their refuge. Hearing the machinery above them, the miners rushed to the drill tip and began banging on it.
When the drill was pulled back up, rescuers found a note taped to it in red marker: “We are well in the refuge—the 33.”
A camera and light were then lowered into the hole. In the video, the miners — thin, dusty, blinking hard — crowded toward the brightness, cheering.
One of them later said, “We didn’t find the light. The light found us.” That sentence became a summary of the entire rescue: hope broke into darkness.
Are you searching for God's light or letting it find you in your darkness?
Reflection:
Advent reminds us that God’s light reaches us before we can reach Him. Christ is the Light who comes into our darkness, even the darkness we cannot name.
His light shines long before we know how to walk toward it.
Where is God shining light into your life, inviting you to take even a small step toward Him?
Prayer:
Lord, shine Your light into every shadowed place inside me, even the places I’ve grown used to.
Give me courage to walk toward the light You have already provided.
Send me to where I don't want to be.
Here I am Lord.
Amen.
