Epiphany - Week 7

EPIPHANY DEVOTIONS — YEAR A

WEEK 7 — THE LIGHT SPREADS
February 16 – February 22, 2026

The season of Epiphany began with light breaking into darkness—the star over Bethlehem, the shining revelation of who Jesus is. That light has grown clearer week by week: through baptismal waters, miraculous signs, mountaintop glory, and unveiled faces.

Now, as the season nears its end, we reach the moment when the light begins to spread beyond Jesus Himself, radiating outward through His followers.

Week 7 — The Light Spreads marks the turning point where revelation becomes mission.
Jesus no longer stands alone as the sole bearer of divine light; He looks into the eyes of His disciples and says, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world.”

Epiphany is never just about recognizing who Jesus is—it’s about realizing who we are because of Him. The light we’ve been admiring is now entrusted to us. We are commissioned to carry it into workplaces, homes, neighborhoods, classrooms, and cities—to flavor the world with grace and to illumine it with truth.

This week’s readings show light moving outward:
  • Jesus calls ordinary workers and gives them extraordinary purpose.
  • He demonstrates authority over evil, not merely by power but by holy clarity.
  • He defines His mission as good news for the poor, freedom for the captive, and sight for the blind.
  • Then, He sends His followers out—two by two—to continue and expand that mission in His name.

The revelation of Epiphany becomes the responsibility of discipleship. What was revealed in Christ now spreads through us. The light that once shone over Bethlehem now burns in His people, illuminating dark corners of the world with courage, compassion, and truth.

This Week’s Focus: Illumination as Mission
We are not passive recipients of divine light—we are bearers of it.
To follow Christ is to bring His radiance wherever we go, to see need as opportunity, and to step boldly into the harvest fields He has already prepared.
Epiphany ends not with the light fading, but with the light multiplying—passed from candle to candle, life to life, until the whole world glows with His presence.

DAY 49 — Sent Out Two by Two
Sunday - Scripture: Luke 10:1-3

"After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on ahead of him in pairs to every town and place where he himself intended to go. He said to them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go on your way. See, I am sending you out like lambs into the midst of wolves.'"

In 2018, two college students, Alex and Jordan, felt called to start a ministry to homeless youth in their city. They were both young, inexperienced, and had no funding or organizational support. Most people told them to wait until they had more training and resources.

Instead, they started simple—showing up at the same park every Tuesday night with sandwiches and hot chocolate, just listening to kids' stories. They didn't try to fix everything; they just consistently showed up together.

Three years later, their Tuesday night gatherings had grown into a full nonprofit with housing programs, job training, and family reunification services. Alex said: "Jesus didn't wait until we were experts to send us out. He just said, 'Go together, and I'll meet you there.'"

Reflection:
Jesus sent the seventy in pairs, not as lone-wolf evangelists. Ministry was meant to be done in community, with mutual support and accountability. Two people together have more credibility, can encourage each other, and can reach different types of people.

"Like lambs among wolves"—Jesus was honest about the dangers and difficulties they would face. He didn't promise easy success, but He did promise His presence and power.
The disciples were sent "ahead of him" to places where Jesus "intended to go." They weren't just representing Jesus—they were preparing the way for His personal arrival.

Who might God be calling you to partner with in ministry or service? How can you prepare the way for Jesus to work in places where He intends to go?

Prayer:
Lord, help me find faithful partners for the work You've called me to do.
Give me courage to go as a lamb among wolves, trusting in Your protection and power.
Use me to prepare the way for You to work in the places You intend to visit.
Amen.
